Trivia Report

Okay okay, so last night we returned to Dr. Fact's Night of 50 Questions at Buttermilk after one month off. Due to the pouring rain the place was less packed than usual...still packed, just not overpacked. The pot was $205. Our team, The Real People, had five people: Me, Bryan R., Marya, Matt, and NewMatt. The problem is, there is a limit of four people. Somebody had to go! Through some kind of machinations/musical chairs behind my back while I was eating a sandwich, that ended up being me. NewMatt was able to matchmake me with Melis, who is a fellow regular at the bar, who somehow hooked us up with Jo(h)n and Claudia, who usually compete as a duo. Our team was called something like the ganga-leers or gondoliers or galaga or galaxians? And we rocked! At half time we had the high score of 11 points (it was veddy hard), along with 5 other teams. Real People had only 9! Hah! At the end we were a mere 3 points from the winners, while the Real People continued to trail behind! However there was a 5 point bonus round for a free pitcher of beer, and my team the galangals and the Real People both got 4 out of 5, meaning we each got a pitcher. Phew. The Neuticles were short their female member and renamed themselves "The Bad News Beards." Another top contender was "Three Beards and A Slut," since three of the usual "Sluts" team were absent. I can't help wondering how far my theory of beards and trivia hegemony has spread around the internet. Just how much fun IS being made of me? People should take me more seriously.

In the end, the Bad News Beards were tied for first with Choad Patrol (which was the name of my original team but they can have it cuz it's nazty.) So the MC asked if they wanted to split the money or get a tiebreaking question, and the question was what is the length of the Tour De France and the Choads guessed closest and took all the money.

I have to admit, my prudishness cost us a crucial point. the question was, "what is the state animal of New York?" and John said he thought it was a beaver or a badger and I agreed that it was something like that and insisted that it couldn't be beaver because well, you know. Of course now it's obvious that Badger is already Wisconsin's state animal and the answer really is beaver. Other questions included "what is McGuyver's first name?" (Angus.) What is Duff Man's real name? (Barry Duffman) What is Dr. Fact's real name? (Sam) and on and on. I resolved to memorize all the names of phobias and sciences in order to prepare. That is so going to happen. At any rate that is my suggestion to you my readers if you would like to prepare for next month's brainteasing. Also weren't we going to try trivia at Cocotte on Wednesdays?
